How Workas time tracking works
By evening, the day blurs into tabs, messages, meetings, and small tasks. Workas runs quietly in the background and turns that blur into a clear daily timeline — so you can stop guessing and close each day with confidence.
9am
No timer to start. No app to open. Workas sits quietly in your system tray and takes note of where your attention goes — so the day can simply happen while it keeps the record.
2pm
Every app, every switch, every stretch of focus — noted automatically and synced privately to your account. Your data is visible to you alone, and no one else’s.
6pm
Open the dashboard and the blur becomes a timeline — your receipt for the day, itemized and waiting for you below.
You do not need another thing demanding your attention. You need an honest record of the attention you already gave.
Everything it does, nothing it doesn't
Workas records the apps you use, your active and idle time, and every app switch — then turns it into clear reports of your day. No screenshots. No keystrokes. Nothing more than what your time report needs.
Effortless
Workas watches the active window and records how long you spend there. No start timer. No stop timer. No project picker. No context switching. It just runs — silently, in the background, while you work the way you already work.

Capture
Workas records activity on your device first. When sync is enabled, the data needed for your dashboard is sent to your account for analysis and visualization.

Focus
Reading a doc for 20 minutes is active time. Gone for coffee is idle. Workas detects the difference automatically.

Attention
Workas tracks each app switch so "busy" becomes measurable — see how often your attention moved, and whether today was steadier than yesterday.

Reports
Your whole day in one clear view — timeline, categories, totals. Answers, not dashboards.

Offline
Tracking doesn't stop when the internet does. Workas keeps recording and queues your data on the device, then syncs it to your account the moment you reconnect — nothing lost, nothing to think about.

Organize
Sort every app into productive, distracting, or neutral — your rules drive every report.
While you work, Workas keeps the tally. At the end of the day it hands you the receipt — every app, every stretch of focus, every switch — so the question “where did today go?” finally has an answer.

Workas isn't built for a 200-person ops team or a manager who wants to monitor employees. It's built for you — and the shape of your day is yours. A few torn-off edges from people who already keep the tally:
"How much time did I actually spend in VS Code vs Slack vs GitHub today?"
SWITCHES47 — busier than usual
"I was at my laptop for 6 hours. How much of that was actual studying?"
STUDY TIME2 hr 10 min of 5 hr at desk
"Did I bill enough hours this week, or did I lose track again?"
WEEK TOTAL19 hr 44 min — short by 2 hrs
"Am I working more at home than I did in the office? It feels like it."

Workas records which app is in focus and for how long — app names, window titles, active and idle time, and when you switch apps. It uses that to build your daily timeline and reports. It does not capture screenshots, keystrokes, mouse clicks, or screen recordings.
No. Workas never captures screenshots, keystrokes, mouse clicks, or screen recordings — not once, not in the background, not in any mode. The record it keeps is a list of which apps you used and when.
No. Workas runs quietly in the background and notices when you switch apps — there is no timer to start, no task to label, nothing to remember. You can pause tracking from the app whenever you want.
When sync is enabled (it is on by default), Workas sends the app names, window titles, and active/idle time needed to build your dashboard to your account. It never sends screenshots, keystrokes, mouse clicks, or screen recordings. You can switch sync off in Settings → Tracking anytime, and tracking itself needs your explicit consent.
No. Workas is built for individuals, not for employee monitoring. Your data belongs to your account and only you can see it — there is no admin view, no manager dashboard, no sharing. Anyone using Workas to monitor other people would need their account credentials, which we do not support providing.
Yes. Tracking does not stop when the internet does — Workas keeps recording locally and syncs to your account the moment you reconnect. Nothing is lost.
Workas is a desktop app for Windows and macOS. Your dashboard works in any modern browser, so your reports follow you across machines.
Most trackers make you do the work: start timers, pick projects, fill in timesheets. Workas does the record-keeping for you and shows you the honest result — no screenshots, no keystrokes, no surveillance, no manual entry.
